Museum

History

VICAL Museum of Pre-Columbian Art and Modern Glass belongs to VICAL, Central America Glass Company, who took the idea from Don Edgar Castillo Sinibaldi and decided to show people this new and different concept of Museum.

It opened in 1999 in El Jaulón, also in Antigua Guatemala, and in February 2003 became part of the Paseo de Los Museos into Hotel Museo Casa Santo Domingo. Actually it is at the entrance of the old church of Santo Domingo, whose columns remain in this space.

Collections

VIGUA Museum of Pre-Columbian Art and Modern Glass shows a permanent exhibit of Pre-Hispanic objects in clay and stone, which are complemented with similar objects in contemporary glass. Both collections show that through the years, men have been inspired by the same subjects to create their own masterpieces ( Burial urns and faces, Animals, Human Figures , Design , Color and Form , and Jewelry)

All the Mayan artifacts of this collection are registered at the Institute of Anthropology and History IDAEH. The glass objects were created by outstanding international artists and glassmakers such as Baccarat, Daum, Lalique, Kosta Boda and Mosser and they were acquired on the international market, looking for similarities.

WE ARE INDUSTRIANS INTERESTED IN CULTURE

We consider that to be interested in Culture is the way to humanize our company and the VICAL Museum, is where art, beauty and form transcend in time.
